George Sale's two-volume translation was to remain the most widely available English translation over the next 200 years, and is still in print today, with release of a recent 2009 edition. The first scholarly translation of the Qur'an based primarily on the Latin translation of Louis Maracci (1698). To which is prefixed a preliminary discourse by George Sale London Printed by C. into English immediately from the original Arabic with explanatory notes, taken from the most approved commentators.
